Delays to publication of aerospace standard revisions - AS91XX:2016

Revisions to AS9100 (Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations) and AS9101 (Audit Requirements) were due to be issued this April. However, during the recent IAQG (International Aerospace Quality Group) Spring Conference, it was announced that publication has been delayed until October. The revised standards will be issued in nine languages across all regions simultaneously and the revisions to AS9110 (Requirements for Maintenance Organizations) and AS9120 (Requirements for Stockist Distributors) should also follow by the end of the year.

The aerospace industry supplier database, OASIS, is being updated and the OASIS Next Generation database should also be available by the end of the year.

Gary Proctor, LRQA’s Aerospace Technical Manager, explained the timescale for transition; “From 15 June 2017 any new certifications must be to AS91XX:2016 and everybody must transition by 14 September 2018 to maintain their certification. We are developing a range of training courses, which will be available to book soon to help organisations in the aerospace industry make a successful transition to the revised standards.”

LRQA is working with its accreditors globally to ensure that it will be accredited to certify to the revised AS91XX:2016 as soon as possible. The accreditors should be approved by the Aerospace Industry Controlled Other Party (ICOP) by the end of January 2017, with accreditation audits for certification bodies following thereafter.

Through our extensive range of training and assessment services, LRQA is helping organisations worldwide to migrate and transition to the new and revised standards. For more information about AS91XX:2016, email us or visit our website.
